Steamy Bohemian

When boho gets a steampunk makeover.

in-her-drawer-boho-steampunk-tophat DSC_5080

Honestly, I think this whole steampunk idea started with a quest for a top hat. I’ve seen them pop up in some couture shoots and have been lusting over a vintage broken-in velvet top hat that looks like it had could lived its life making music with Slash. Oh the stories that hat could tell. Since this icon of steampunk culture hasn’t quite made the mainstream market, it’s taken a little time to work one into my wardrobe. It’s really pretty awesome how things work out sometimes…shortly after I acquired said top hat, I had the pleasure of meeting up-and-coming Vegas jewelry desinger, Rachel Anderson. Rachel’s company, In Her Drawer, creates stunning boho jewels infused with just a little bit of steampunk. I knew her style would be perfect for this look!Continue reading…

Surfing the Crimson Wave

This is a sponsored post for U by Kotex, who provided me products to review. You can get a free sample from U by Kotex too here and Do the Demo.

Mr. Hall: “Cher Horowitz–two tardies.”
Cher: “I object. Do you recall the dates of these alleged tardies?”
Mr. Hall: “One was last Monday.”
Cher: “Mr. Hall, I was surfing the crimson wave. I had to haul ass to the ladies.”

ubykotexstars-kotex-crimson-wave

Well put, Cher! There’s something about using excuses of “it’s that time of the month” that men will never question or care to know details. Everything from the pain pills to the chocolate cravings is just TMI. And accidentally dropping a tampon from your purse in plain view of the opposite sex? You might as well have read the first few pages of your diary out loud. What’s up with the crazy stigma that we can’t openly talk about our monthly ovulation cycle? Photo source.Continue reading…

Ginny Gin Gin

My current libation of choice.

SAMSUNG CSC

There’s nothing like pouring a delicious cocktail at the end of the day and sitting down to create some late night music. I’ve been a gin drinker for a while now and have recently developed a taste for bourbon and scotch. Maybe it’s all the bourbon barrel craft beers that Justin and I go through in our house, or the late night hangs after shows with my band mates and sipping on scotch til we close down the bar. The perfect pairing of my two liquor loves comes in a form called Ransom Old Tom Gin. Literally gin aged in bourbon barrels. When I’m on tour, the hotel we always stay at keeps this bottle in stock for me…no joke! Bragging rights for rock star status? Or just more incentive from the bar for me to spend all of my per diem? I’d like to think it’s the first assumption:)Continue reading…

Western vagabond.

desert-gypsy-junkies-free-people5

If you were stranded in the desert and could only wear three things what would it be? Fringe, lace and studs. I don’t know what more I can ask for in an ensemble. My most recent hand bag obsession is the epitome of fringe, studs and everything that is awesomely bohemian. Paired with vintage fabric from India, I couldn’t have dreamt up a better design. Pachamama Bohemian designs very authentic eastern bohemian accessories and clothing. Tunics, kaftans, pillows, purses, necklaces, harem pants, and dresses, Pachamama makes gorgeous bohemian staples and statement pieces.Continue reading…

The Neon Museum, Las Vegas.

SAMSUNG CSC

Over the past year and a half Vegas has basically been my second home. I perform about 4 months out of the year in Las Vegas and just last month was the first opportunity I had to visit the Neon Museum. I’ve always thought Vegas seems to lack history and culture since it thrives on the superficial, but after visiting this museum I had a much greater respect for the city and its roots. Neon sign design is a dying art. The Neon Museum is home to this specific era in time when businesses strived to have the biggest, brightest, and most well-designed neons. The technology, craftsmanship and stories that come with each sign is so fascinating! From the days when horses were welcome in casinos, to the influx of Vegas’ iconic wedding chapels, all of these signs have awesome stories to tell!Continue reading…

Something vintage, something blue.

boho-vintage-western-wedding29

I’ve never been the dream wedding planning type. I don’t really have a specific destination in mind or even a designer dress that I’m lusting over. Much to my parents’ relief, when the time comes I want to keep it small and my dress budget will definitely be under $500. Don’t get me wrong, there are some amazing couture dresses that blow my mind, but I’m just as happy (if not happier) wearing a vintage dress and cowboy boots. Some of my two new favorite companies, Vintage Urban Renewal and Billi Blues have the perfect picks for any bohemian’s dream wedding.Continue reading…

Fringe flares at dusk.

What is any bohemian’s wardrobe without a little fringe? I’ve been on a fringe kick for a while now and I literally can’t get enough…purses, boots, tunics, tanks, I have it all. So naturally when I spotted this 70’s vintage fringe shawl from Vintage Urban Renewal, it begged to be added to my collection! And these earrings, I’m in love with ALL of Tory Legg’s designs! This copper is hand forged by Tory herself and has a strand of natural turquoise beads. Absolutely incredible design and quality! And for being the size that they are, these earrings are super light and easy to throw on with any outfit. Continue reading…

Happy Friday boho lovers! It’s been an eventful week to say the least since I’ve gotten back from tour. Lots of projects that I’m working on…a music video for the launch of my new musical group the String Chix, songwriting, print-making, photo-shooting, every day has been super slammed packed. And yesterday I just signed with a commercial agent here in LA, woo-hoo! Here’s a little illustration I cranked out this morning for you to use as a screensaver, wrapping paper, greeting card, whatever you come up with. If you use it online, just link it back to me:)
