Recreating 1930’s Hollywood icon Marlene Dietrich

SAMSUNG CSC

This past weekend I attended my first MAC Pro masterclass at my favorite MAC Pro store on Robertson Blvd in Los Angeles! I’ve been a MAC Pro member for the past six years and I’ve always wanted to attend a class led by one of their senior artists, Louise Zizzo. I almost always do my own make-up for stage performance, but sometimes I feel like I get into a rut of doing the same techniques. The theme of the evening was recreating style icons. This night’s particular icon happened to be Marlene Dietrich, an actress from the 30’s known for her thin brows, contoured fair skin and rounded lips.

A color image that Louise brought in…she suggests when picking an icon to imitate that you a pictures of all angels and poses.

First order of business was a brow cover with glue stick (purple that dries clear) and a spatchula! I’ve definitely seen brow covers in fashion shoots and editorials but this technique is totally new to me. Watch the transformation below:

Amazing what a little make-up and wig will do on a model Danielle Zephia of Native American and French decent!

One of the coolest part of the class was recording all of the brushes used for each individual product. I have a definite lack of brushes and now have complete brush envy. There’s so many specific angles, shapes and sizes to get the perfect touch.

Here’s a list of brushes that Louise used to create this look (now on my list to purchase):

266-Angled for eyeliner and drawn-on brows
266-Eyeshadow blending
219-“Pencil brush” great for smudging
231-Perfect for lips
266-Fan brush, great for light coverage
129-Loose Powder brush
130-White tip, great for use with foundation
252-Great for concealers
168-Awesome for cheek contouring

The aftermath…

And here’s that purple glue stick I mentioned. Definitely picking one of these up for my stage make-up bag.

And this sponge is a must for concealer and foundation. Especially for heavy cover.

Thanks Louise, Danielle, the the MAC Pro Robertson Store!

Wow, so much makeup! I’m pretty basic with my makeup. Not because I don’t love my makeup, but mainly because I’m not good at doing. I only just started to try and countour (not well). Clearly, you’re pretty pro. Very beautiful results. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Thanks, Andrea! I can’t take credit for the look, it was actually a pro doing it but I plan on recreating it soon! Contouring is so good to know how to do…it does wonders!
