Zucchero, San Francisco 2017
This shoot in San Francisco with Jay Blakesberg was something I wasn’t expecting to happen for years down the road. The whole connection happened when Jay released his book, Hippie Chick, an amazing photo collection of true free-spirited female festival goers starting from the early Grateful Dead years. Through a little help from social media, Jay and I connected for a collaboration here on Bohemian Bunnie. We met in person at his book signing where by complete coincidence he featured a photo of my decorated envelope for the Grateful Dead Fare Thee Well shows. Literally he featured five envelopes that he photographed while at the Stinson Beach headquarters out of nearly 30,000 mail order ticket requests. From that meeting, Jay graciously invited me to perform with the all female fronted band at Terrapin Crossroads for his book release party. Having been a fan of the Dead since I was twelve, being invited to perform at Phil Lesh’s club with musicians that are part of the Grateful Dead community, for the Grateful Dead’s main photographer, was an insanely incredible honor. At that show I told Jay I couldn’t wait for the day that he would photograph me on stage, full on rock star style. That day came just 18 months later in San Francisco on March 19th, 2017 at Palace of Fine Arts. Just before the show we shot around the exterior of the venue, one of the most beautiful venue exteriors of the tour this past year. Thank you, Jay, for this amazing shoot! It’s so fun when events come full circle.
