I just finished an epic week of fiddle camp where you sleep less than four hours a night, jam all day, perform at night and then jam until sunrise! At fiddle camp (aka Creative Strings Workshop) there are tons of opportunities to perform all throughout Columbus, Ohio. One performance spot was at a new super hip joint in the Short North called Brothers Drake. Brothers Drake Meadery is an urban producer of wines made from honey. Sourced from local wildflower honey their mead is only sold in the Greater Columbus area. What is mead? It’s an awesomely tasty drink that uses fermented honey as its primary sugar source. Using large drink carafes is a perfect way to keep your guests’ thirst quenched. With just a little bit of prep, it saves from someone having to play bartender all night or people making a mess out of a table filled with liquor and mixers. And as you know, as long as the drinks are flowing, your guests are happy and ready to party. It’s always difficult to estimate how much liquor to purchase and/or mixers to make drinks for your party, so I’ve broken it down into a simple grocery list and recipe for two awesome drinks! If you’re a musician and you live in LA, you know about Hotel Cafe. It’s THE place for singer-songwriters to perform in Hollywood. This past Monday night, I went to support a colleague of mine…amazing guitarist and new to the singer-songwriter world, Zane Carney. I first met Zane about 4 years ago when we both performed with Katie Melua (a British singer-songwriter) on the Jimmy Kimmel show. I’ve been on Zane’s email list for years and FINALLY have been able to make it to a show. You know, the musician life is crazy with shows and tours…it’s never easy to make it out to see your favorite people perform. Zane is a member of the band Carney and recently got the gig as John Mayer’s guitar player for his tour this summer! I’m so stoked for him, John Mayer is absolutely one of my faves:) I was super impressed with Zane’s performance, if you haven’t heard of him, CHECK HIM OUT! Blueberries are in season and I want to add them to everything! They especially go quite well with kale–it balances out the bitter factor:) I can’t take complete credit for this creation…the recipe was born when I was preparing food for my boyfriend’s birthday party and my good friend (also private chef to the stars) came to my rescue and started throwing anything that looked good in my kitchen into this salad. In less than I week I’m headed to Ohio to go to fiddle camp! Yes, I’m well into my professional career as a musician, but there will always be a drive to learn more! I trained as a classical violist since I was nine, studied jazz in college, play in rock bands in LA, but ever since I landed a spot in Shania Twain’s band I’m totally into country music and bluegrass! I have 4 months off until our next run with Shania in October, so I’ve decided to make the best of my summer by studying fiddle music, taking vocal lessons, and working on my pedal steel guitar. I am by no means any sort of chef. In fact, the less cooking I do, the happier I am:) We have a great system down in our household…my boyfriend cooks and I clean up after. I am absolutely loving this plaid shirt right now! I’ve been on the search for the perfect summer plaid to take with me on tour this summer, and I finally found one at Free People. In fact, all three clothing items featured in the post are from Free People. If you’re in the market for cut-off shorts, you have to check these out! They come in a range of bright pastel colors and are just long enough to cover your entire booty without any worries of showing a little too much backside.
