Boots, trucks & fleas.

My weekend doesn’t feel complete unless I spend my Sunday afternoons at the flea market. The Melrose and Fairfax Trading Post has been my Sunday hang ever since I moved to Los Angeles seven years ago. Whether I’m in the market for some vintage threads or Indonesian yard ornaments, getting my LA people watching fix is reason enough to peruse the market. Undeniably the best street style that you’ll find in LA. (Maybe besides going to a Growlers show in Echo Park on a Friday night). I’m guilty of contributing to this fashion scene…I’ll rock my newest and coolest blogging finds even if it means I’ll be sweating through each piece of clothing while sifting through shredded t-shirts and pretending that the LA sun beating down at full force is no big deal. I’ve made it through summer camping at the Gorge, I can definitely handle some flea market swamp ass. What have I been rocking at the flea market recently? I’ve been a huge Kacey Musgraves fan since I started performing with Shania Twain a few years back. When I started playing viola and fiddle for one of the biggest country artists of all times, my musical taste was definitely drawn towards Nashville singer-songwriters, bluegrass and anything with pedal steel guitar. When one of my bandmates introduced me to Kacey’s album “Same Trailer Different Park,” I had it on repeat so much I think my boyfriend has all the lyrics memorized. Kacey’s lyrics are so true, raw and unforgettable. Since I can’t get the chorus of “Follow Your Arrow” out of my head, I figured I’d just write about it in this post. I am absolutely in love with this gorgeous line from Phoenix based designer, Misha Mendicino. Easy to wear, super cozy and breathable fabrics that are flattering on any figure. I can slip on a Misha dress and run errands in a tunic that feels like my pajamas but looks like a perfectly planned boho ensemble. All of her dresses are made out of the softest rayon material and seem to effortlessly fall in just the right places. Handwoven with love.

There’s something magical about wearing an item that is completely handmade. It has a true story to tell and a journey that started in the hands of the artisan. The artisans that craft these handwoven dresses are indigenous people of the Wayuu tribe in northern Colombia. The women of the tribe spend their days crafting dresses and mochila bags entirely by hand without a loom. Days or weeks are spent creating each stitch and knot while the dress comes to life in the hands of a woman thousands of miles away. Poolside with Hari Mari.

It always feels like summer officially ends next weekend over Labor Day. Growing up my family would take one last summer trip over Labor Day weekend to a jazz festival in Michigan. Those were always the last few days of swimming and laying by the pool listening to my favorite grunge bands without a care in the world. Tunics and boots. This has been my go-to combo for the summer. They’re so easy to slip on and run out the door looking completely put together. A good friend of mine (and celebrity chef to the stars) shared his most amazing jackfruit tuna recipe with me last week. I’ve been obsessed with using jackfruit as a meat substitute ever since I ate jackfruit carnitas made by Jared Leto’s private chef during a web-only concert where I performed with 30 Seconds to Mars. Sorry but not sorry for all the name dropping. I was definitely star struck when my middle school crush Jared Leto answered to door to their Studio City band house, and even more in love when I found out he was vegan and his private chef made an elaborate smorgasbord of vegan grub.
