Wond’ring if she’d changed it all,
If her hair was still red.

Layers and movement. Nothing is more appealing to slip into than a dress that flounces with every step. Mixing with layers is something I definitely want to do more of especially after my trip to Japan. After a personalized tour of the designers at Dover Street Market Ginza, Japanese fashion makes me want to up my game on every level. I’m talking rad printed pants, under skirt, under kimono, under printed shirt, under a white leather moto jacket. Amazing! I’ll start with mixing this vintage 70s leather vest over this playful bohemian dress from The Little Bazaar. A much simpler layering tactic but definitely more Californian. Continue reading…

Modern Magpie

Eclectic Mixing with Shopbop.

I’ve always been a sucker for the ultimate vintage find. When one of the most complimented pieces in your closet comes from the $10 table of your favorite vintage vendor at the flea market, it’s better than the first day of markdowns on the Nordstrom shoe rack. All these items kinda came together in a fun, quirky way. Some of these bangles my mom used to rock in the 70’s, the denim jacket was the best hand-me-down I’ve every received, and the dress was in fact one of those $10 purchases. All mixed together with some modern jewels, platforms and designer moonies. Inspired by the Modern Magpie collection of Shopbop, this outfit was a fun experiment of how far I could play around this look. And just in time for spring Shopbopping…

Spring Sale is here! 15% off $250, 20% off $500, and 25% off $1000 with code BIGEVENT16! Shop through March 5th.

‘Cause I love to live so pleasantly

Sunny SoCal afternoons are something I’ll never take for granted. Growing up in Ohio I’d be desperate to wear shorts or summer dresses on a 50 degree day in April. And now on a sunny Sunday afternoon in late February I can spend the afternoon outside lazing, creating music, and catching some rays. A perfect little spring transition piece from Ruby Ribbon has been my go to item for these gorgeous California spring days. The breezy mesh flared sleeves pair perfectly with all of my favorite high-waisted 70s flares. Continue reading…

Embroidery & Breezy Crochet

There’s a little shop in in Boerne, Texas that I hope to visit someday. It’s home to a handful of ensembles featured on Boho Bunnie. A perfect little mix of bohemian threads with a southern twist and staple pieces that you just want to live in. I have a feeling when I step into the brick and mortor of Of A Muse I’m not gonna want to leave. In the meantime their online shop and Instagram page feature some really rad ensembles that are perfect of all types of musings.Continue reading…

Lonesome When You Go

There’s something about this Bob Dylan song that will always have a special place in my heart. It wasn’t until only this past summer that I started getting into Dylan after performing the cover “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue” with a good friend and brilliant singer-songwriter, Marchelle Bradanini. “You’e Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go” is my new Dylan favorite. It’s such a sweet little love song with some really touching lyrics. Fitting for all you lovers this Valentine’s weekend.Continue reading…

And all the night’s magic seems to whisper and hush.

It’s a marvelous night for just about anything with your own gypsy lair. For the past few months I’ve had this vision of recreating the Bergdorf Goodman NYC holiday window, only with a few less swarovski crystals. I’ve done quite a few gypsy inspired posts but none where I completely created the set down to the last drip of wax. A couple trips to the flea market, a few key items from Trippy Store, and some luscious jewels from Tracey Filapose set the mood for this magical evening.Continue reading…

Don’t you turn your back on love

It was one of those Sundays at the Melrose Trading Post that I literally came looking for one item and left with way more than I should have. Scouring the racks for a simple vintage black gypsy dress, this gem of a cape caught my eye and I instantly knew I wasn’t leaving the lot without it. Psychedelic velour flowers that should be on the raddest couch of all time but made into a brass-buttoned cape for me to wear? Heaven. I had no luck bargaining the seller down (I walked back THREE times with a different offer) but caved anyway. Before I even had a chance to dry clean the vintageness outta it, I brought it down to Long Beach to meet up with my girl Ashley Myers to do an impromptu shoot after a few early afternoon beers. Continue reading…

Beyond the Sea

Somewhere beyond the sea, Somewhere waiting for me…

mgra-sustainable-swim-wear-australia-mitch-gobel-resin-art-boho-fashion-blogger-billi-blues-victoria-emerson-jewelry 18

It’s the dead of January eight years after I moved to LA and I still don’t take for granted that there will never be an ice scraper in my car ever again. I take pride in the fact that I don’t own a winter coat, and that this entire month I have walked to my yoga class in flip flops. LA winter is far from my Jamaican spring breaks but the fact that I can brave the beaches of Malibu in a bikini is pretty amazing. It’s a far cry from summer surf, but it is summer somewhere. And that somewhere happens to be Australia, home of MGRA swim wear designer, Mitch Gobel.Continue reading…

Like a heartbeat, drives you mad…

Where would bohemian fashion be without it’s all time favorite muse, Stevie Nicks? The rock goddess herself created an iconic look that has proven timeless. Fleetwood Mac’s music has always been special to me. I can’t tell you how many times Rumors has been on at least a 5x repeat in one sitting. Strong women in rock is so inspiring and I can only dream that one day my music and style leave a lasting impression even a quarter that of Stevie Nicks. Until then I’ll be channeling my inner Stevie with a Violet Vixen corset.Continue reading…
