Every year around this time I feel especially grateful for my yoga practice. It was almost exactly eight years ago today that I decided to make a complete lifestyle change. I was extremely active with competitive sports growing up, I played field hockey, lacrosse, tennis, soccer, ran cross country, track and field, enough sports to guess I was the biggest jock in high school. In fact I was so far from that with all of my music and art related activities that when I left high school and started a rigorous music conservatory training that working out was the absolute last thing on my list. I would take smoke breaks during my 8 hour practice sessions, attend regular happy hour events and one summer while attending Aspen Music Festival for nine weeks, I made a pact to drink with my friends every single night. Heavily. I’m assuming this isn’t much different from most people’s college experience but moving to LA sure as hell didn’t help. I was running amongst the socialites at all the hot night clubs and would be at after hours parties multiple days a week until the sun came up. Do I regret any of this? Absolutely not! Did it need to stop? In the worst way ever, yes! My friend took me to a Bikram yoga class which was probably the most intense work out I had ever experienced next to my two-a-day summer field hockey practices running suicides in 90 degree weather and thick humidity. Bikram was the one thing I knew would kick my ass and get me back in gear. In May 2008 I started attending yoga class 5 days a week and I had literally never felt better. I’ve been hooked on yoga ever since and feel so grateful for the instructors that pushed me back into a healthy lifestyle. So naturally I’m a sucker for anything yoga related and these rad threads from Arima Yoga Wear are no exception.Continue reading…

Drinkin’ and Dreamin’

Drink ’til I’m dreamin’ a thousand miles out of my mind.

“Let’s get drunk and be somebody!” A favorite phrase of my aunt’s that brings me back to summer pontoon boat cruises in Michigan with my family. Coolers packed with booze and bloody mary mix were the most important carry on while we floated down the lake with nothing to do except pick up dockside pizza. It’s been a crazy month of travel and work non stop but luckily I can fit a little play in as well. The first night I made it to Joshua Tree we rushed outside after the storm as the sun was setting, cracked a few beers and snapped some photos. There’s nothing better than raw, in the moment types of shoots especially in a rad Canadian tuxedo-esque Stoned Immaculate jumpsuit.Continue reading…

The silver moon, and the evening tide.

Maxi dresses are such a summer staple in my wardrobe. Nothing is easier than throwing on one complete piece and dressing it down with some boots or dressing it up with some heels. Hale Bob has the bohemian resort look down to a T. Gorgeous chiffon caftans, draping maxis, and bold printed minis make up this summer’s line. Comfortable enough wear while running errands and elegant enough to wear out a beachfront dinner date. I could literally live in these pieces. On vacation or home in Los Angeles, Hale Bob dresses are one of my new must-haves.Continue reading…

Hot Burrito No. 1

No vintage rock tee pairs better with a western fringe button up than a Flying Burrito Bros shirt. Growing up in Ohio, for some reason I was never introduced to this band. It wasn’t until I started playing pedal steel guitar three years ago that I dove hard into listening and learning this music. I’ve been hooked on this band and the western rock movement from the late 60’s and early 70’s for a while now. If you need road trip inspiration, these jams are great for desert travels! And while you’re at it, add a handful of Worn Free vintage rock tees to your suitcase!Continue reading…

I get these notes on butterflies and lilac sprays.

I have always had an obsession for scents. I love mixing lotions with perfumes and oils to create customized fragrances. My house is filled with a collection of candles, diffusers, incense and oils, and I always pack a travel candle to make hotel rooms feel more like home. While on my perpetual search for new fragrances, I have fallen completely in love with local scent experts, Flores Lane. Flores Lane candles are hand-poured with American soy wax with scents and are inspired by cities in LA county. From Venice to Beverly Hills, every candle has it’s own unique and distinct scent that represents the attitude and energy of these communities. Jasmin & bergamot emulates the artistic spirit of Silverlake, while notes of tobacco & bay leaf give DTLA an urban and masculine feel.Continue reading…

Guess I’ll die with this fever in my soul.

It has been a beautiful birthday week. A family visit to San Francisco, performing a show at Terrapin Crossroads, rehearsals and a performance for the MTV Video Awards, and most importantly showers of love and best wishes for the upcoming year. This past year has been a whirlwind of events and emotions, and this week in particular has kinda of felt like a reset. New goals, new adventures, new love, new trips, new locations, new projects…I’ve been open to it all and allowing it into my life. With all of the joy of my birthday week, this year was also bittersweet. I’ve always been proud to share a birthday with the late Merle Haggard. We lost such an inspirational songwriter and musician on our shared birthday this past Wednesday, April 6th. As I’ve been digging more and more into the great songwriters of country music, my personal style has been influenced as well. With a little western flair from The Little Bazaar, I felt it was fitting to take a second and honor Mr. Haggard in this post.Continue reading…

And I’m gonna make it home tonight.

I’ve been a huge Gram Parsons and Flying Burrito Bros fan for the past three years. The whole Joshua Tree California country-rock movement of the 70’s has been my jam for a while now. Countless sleepless nights I’ve been up practicing pedal steel guitar learning Sneaky Pete solos from FBB albums. Gram Parsons being one of my style icons, the whole Nudie Suit style of western wear has been my favorite thing to incorporate into my wardrobe recently. The day I own a custom Nudie Suit might just be the day my wardrobe is fully complete. Obviously rocking a Nudie Suit in the middle of Hollywood on a weekday afternoon isn’t quite the right fit but a vintage inspired Worn Free Gram Parsons tee has been my go-to everyday look.Continue reading…

Hippy Heart

“No falseness, no fear, only truth.”

I love fashion born out of unique personal experience, where the creator’s life informs the pieces they create. You can always feel the difference. For Vanessa Sitara her inspiration came traveling through India. She visited the country’s small villages, rich culture and foods. The result of this life-altering experience is her clothing line Hippy Heart. There’s a grounded but otherworldly quality to the pieces that are so unique! These vegan-leather flares have energy in every step that makes you NEED to give your most badass stride. The top is cropped wool with a flowing back and a chiffon duster. This piece, like the flares, has killer movement. The oversized cut of the top is very flattering and cropped in just the right spot. I like any clothes that make you feel like you’ve been hitting the gym just by putting them on! Bless Vanessa’s lil’ Hippy Heart for needing to wander and bringing us such unique, cool threads!Continue reading…
