Another Trip Around the Sun
Aries Season! Always the best time of year. I’m writing this on my birthday and feeling so much gratitude for all of my amazing family and friends, and the incredible opportunities I’ve been given. I pulled off my first solo show at the top of the year, about to embark on another tour, and lots and lots of projects in the works. This particular shoot was from last summer in Vegas featuring AM Radio Mode and Planet Cowboy with Ashley Marie Myers…it wouldn’t be a trip to Vegas without an Ashley shoot!

Las Vegas…show number 23 on the Backroad Baptism tour. I’ve performed at the MGM Grand Arena a handful of times but this was by far the most memorable. It definitely checked all the boxes…no sleep, a mile long hallway walk to the hotel room, night caps at 5:30 am, after hours jazz, fancy sushi, a sold out show to 17,000 people and of course a boozey lunch photoshoot with Ashley Marie Myers. There was something in the air as everyone dispersed off the tour bus immediately as we pulled into Vegas. Everyone was about to get into their own form of trouble. While I pride myself with some pretty epic Vegas tour stories, our bus driver James beat us all, he won Vegas that trip. A long time designer friend AM Radio fitted me up for one of my most favorite stops on this tour. I’ve been eyeing her new designs for a least a year and so stoked I got to do Vegas right in one of her fits!

I’m missing this California weather right about now. It’s 98 degrees in Arkansas and set to be our hottest outdoor show on this tour. Meanwhile after the hurri-quake in Ventura it’s back to the 75 and sunny Cali standard. Before heading into the heatwave of middle America for tour, I got to squeeze in a shoot with Angela Izzo among the Ventura, California wildflowers. This daisy set by favorite lingerie designer Clare Bare is everything!

Birthday celebration April 6, 2023. There’s not another place in the world where I’d rather spend my birthday…well maybe Monte Carlo on a yacht but if we’re talking Los Angeles, the Sunset Marquis forever has my heart. This place has mad juju all in a good way. I always know whenever I step foot in that hotel, it’s gonna be something I’ll never forget. Angela Izzo documented my birthday afternoon on film using some new Lomography prototypes and I’m drooling over these vintage colors.

Sustainable California Clothing
River + Sky is an artisan-crafted fashion line designed with sustainability in mind. It’s for those with music in their veins and nature in their hearts, who prefer the road less traveled and appreciate all things handmade. This small-batch brand of plant-based, hand-dyed clothing is just as lux as it is comfortable. Listening to old records while shooting in the most perfect bohemian bungalow with Angela Izzo was exactly how I envisioned this collaboration with River + Sky.

Both kinds of music
Boots, hats and some LFDW outlaw merch. On a day-to-day basis you’ll always see me in a pair of cowboy boots. But I just couldn’t resist some suede over-the-knees with an oversize sweatshirt. Live Forever Die Whenever makes some super rad ‘outlaw shit’ AND they’re based out Cincinnati, Ohio, home of my alma mater. From studying classical viola at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, I would have never imagined having a career as a fiddle and pedal steel player. I didn’t even listen to country music, let alone western music back then. Crazy how it all evolves…

Vintage is better in black & white
I would say close to half of my wardrobe is vintage. There are lots of local Los Angeles vintage shops I have frequented over the years, including my go-to venders at the flea markets. But nothing is more exciting than finding some retro gems while traveling. Every city has their own distinct style and it’s fun to sift through their time capsules of the past. During a three year world tour I did performing in 55 countries, my routine for days off would be to find the best vegan or vegetarian friendly restaurants (South America was nearly impossible for that task), hit the guitar shops, record shops and local vintage and thrift shops. This dress in particular I found in a German town on the French border at a thrift shop for 6 Euro. It’s one of those pieces that has been hanging in my closet waiting for the right moment, or maybe a slight alteration. The moment was musing for this tin type shoot.
