Brothers Drake Meadery in Columbus Ohio
I just finished an epic week of fiddle camp where you sleep less than four hours a night, jam all day, perform at night and then jam until sunrise! At fiddle camp (aka Creative Strings Workshop) there are tons of opportunities to perform all throughout Columbus, Ohio. One performance spot was at a new super hip joint in the Short North called Brothers Drake. Brothers Drake Meadery is an urban producer of wines made from honey. Sourced from local wildflower honey their mead is only sold in the Greater Columbus area. What is mead? It’s an awesomely tasty drink that uses fermented honey as its primary sugar source. Even believed to be the ancestor of all fermented drinks!
Brothers Drake serves mead by the glass, but also makes some cool old-timey drinks like mixing mead with gin. Barrel aged cocktails…now that’s my type of drink! I got to taste some of the mead, which is pretty ridiculous, but since they ALSO had barley wine on tap I couldn’t pass that up!
The inside of Brothers Drake is awesome, I so wish there was a bar like this in LA! AND nothing beats Ohio booze prices:)
Topher is bartender extraordinaire at Brothers Drake. Whipping up one of those gin-mead combos:)
Jason and Eli gettin ready to get their fiddling on. I think Boho Bunnie made it on the everyone’s fiddle case this week! Yee-haw!
They have a great little patio outside too…hanging out after our set with fellow fiddlers at CSW in an album cover worthy pic:)
So besides being a killer bar with their own MEAD, old timey drinks, awesome bartenders and craft beers on tap, they have an amazing stage AND often have live bluegrass! A stage like this at a bar this hip in LA just doesn’t exist. The bluegrass band The Relentless Mules took the stage after we did short fiddle set. They stay fairly local to the midwest…if I lived in Ohio I would see them all the time! Amazing musicians.
Fiddle wizards Ken and Eli from CSW took the stage with The Mules and killed it!
So if you’re ever in the Columbus, Ohio area, come out to support your local musicians and your local meadery….you won’t be disappointed!
Linking up with FUNDAY MONDAY!
