Midwestern Love

The heart of it all.

First off, I would like to give mad props to all you fashion bloggers who blog year round in any location that reaches below forty degrees as a high. For our two week trip back to Ohio, I packed a handful of outfits for photo shoots. There are so many run down barns, sheds, fields and farms that are perfect shooting locations so I was excited to get some midwestern variety on the blog. Our first photo shoot in 29 degrees was quickly titled as our last winter Ohio photo shoot as well. Justin was shivering so much it was hard to keep the camera steady and I couldn’t feel my fingers in a matter of five minutes. But for the love of fashion we trudged through. I was determined to showcase these gorgeous handmade knit pieces by Made With Love by J Dove. This young college student is so extremely talented with her knit creations! Go ask Alice, when she’s ten feet tall.

A white lace dress and magical garland can turn any winter desert canyon into a wonderland setting. Earlier this month I got to meet the gypsy mama herself (Cynthia-the creator and designer of the brand Gypsy Junkies) in Las Vegas. Loaded with boxes of jewels and dozens of gorgeous gypsy threads, Justin and I headed to one of our favorite places to shoot in Vegas. This setting wouldn’t be nearly as mystical without this gorgeous handmade garland from Tilly Lilly. A textiles designer out of the UK, Tilly Lilly specializes in garlands, dream catchers, knitwear, cuffs and paintings. “I’ve been waiting so long…”

Over the past couple years, I’ve really gotten into playing bluegrass. Growing up learning classical music since I was nine, studying jazz in college, and performing rock when I moved to LA, it was only a matter of time that I started going to bluegrass jams and learning fiddle tunes. When I joined Shania Twain’s band on viola and fiddle, I felt like such an underachiever…everyone in the band plays at least 4 instruments exceptionally well. There I was on just viola and fiddle (which is no small feat) but determined to keep up with the Jones’, I started learning pedal steel, mandolin and took up vocal lessons. Love in Venice

Surprisingly after over seven years of living in Los Angeles this was my first visit to the Venice Canals. It couldn’t be more picturesque…the perfectly manicured shrubbery framing the eclectic and colorful homes, the miniature paddle boats and canoes, and the gorgeous arched bridges that rise over the canals about each quarter mile. With groups of tourists walking through by the dozens, privacy sure can’t be your main concern if you choose to live here. But wow, that’s definitely something I would consider sacrificing to live in a canal front home. She knows she’s been naughty…

No matter how naughty she is, Bowie will forever be our spoiled little nugget. A sunshine daydream.

There is nothing cozier than your favorite worn-in vintage tee. The kind where the fabric is so soft that you wear it to bed and then don’t take it off for the rest of the day. Take that staple, give it a deep-v, turn it into a onesie and you have the ultimate bedtime/daytime romper. Pacific and Driftwood fittingly calls this romper line “Sleep with Me.” You can’t deny something that’s softer than your highest thread count sheets and just as sexy as your best little black dress. Paired with magical gypsy pieces from Adorn by Sarah Lewis, I couldn’t have dreamt up a better ensemble.

Fringe & Fiddles.

A few months ago I had the privilege of working with amazing boudoir photographer, Karen Stewart. From a mutual love of each others Instagram accounts we planned a shoot in Bakersfield, California where Karen is based. With run down farms and cotton fields dominating much of the outskirts of the city, it was definitely a perfect place to capture a western bohemian vibe. There’s nothing like the quest to get the perfect shot at magic hour. There’s definitely something exciting about pulling up on an amazing location right before the sun sets and hoping everything falls into place to capture the right look in a five to ten minute window. We had some magical moments while the sun was setting, and even some just at dusk. Karen’s photography is all about the art of being a woman and you can see the passion in her photos. From bridal shoots, pregnancy photos, fashion shoots, to classy boudoir, Karen captures women in their most beautiful state.Continue reading…

It’s been a long time coming and I’m so excited for the official String Chix music video release! For the past two and half years we’ve been performing with Shania Twain. Coming up on our last leg of our residency in Las Vegas with Shania Twain this month, we finally finished our music video! Locked with love.

Four years have flown by so fast. If you don’t know the story behind hour our relationship started, it’s actually pretty damn cute. Justin and I have know each other since we were 12 years old. We met at a summer camp where I was the “junior counselor.” Our first kiss should have been in a tent playing spin the bottle, but unfortunately I refused the kiss claiming that I had to uphold my duties as a counselor. During the next six years we passed notes in the hallway, talked on the phone til all hours, went to shows together, but never dated. It took 10 years after high school to randomly reconnect in a park in Los Angeles. Two years after that we moved into our home in Sherman Oaks, and just 18 months ago started our adventures in the blogosphere. Just a few weeks ago Justin planned a special surprise of a custom love lock on a bridge in Atwater Village for our four year anniversary. He planned the whole shoot and even asked me to wear this adorably boho dress from Pachamama Bohemian and jewels from Vavavida.Continue reading…
