Summer Concert Beauty Vibes

The summer music scene with Eco Tools.

Summers with me and Justin are normally planned around attending music events. Last summer’s big trip was Jazz Fest in New Orleans, the year before was the Gorge in Washington to camp and see Phish, and this summer’s big concert-cation was the Grateful Dead Fare Thee Well shows in Chicago. We did also get a weekend of Coachella in this year but it was a little different because it was a weekend of performing for me. From being in all types of weather…unshaded 110 degree heat, muggy and rainy, and beautiful 70 degree evenings, I’ve learned to be prepared for anything when it comes to styling. Keeping it quick and simple (especially when you’ve got a whole group of guys waiting on you to get ready to go to a show) is key. Cowgirl in the Sand

Hello ruby in the dust…

Right out of a dream, this beautiful white stallion let me ride him through the sand and into the sunset. Not minding at all that we wove ribbons and frayed fabric into his braided mane. Adorned in Billi Blues, Pachamama Bohemian & Spell Designs, this bohemian beauty was the perfect model to accompany me for the evening. From falling in love with Harry the horse during the photo shoot, I have promised myself to someday have a horse of my own. It’s so unbelievably calming to escape the real world and spend an afternoon or an evening riding. Let it roll, baby, roll.

Playing country music, I’ve always had a little western in me. Boots, hats and belts can take any outfit and give it an edge…a little rock or country vibe. In LA I literally wear boots all year round. Boots with shorts, dresses, tunics, even swimwear when I get off the beach. Quality handmade leather items will last you forever and pairing two pieces that are western wardrobe staples that both happen to be handmade with love just seems right. Carol McCoy of Real Leather Stuff makes GORGEOUS belts and accessories out of her home in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. I wish they all could be California

Moving to LA I had this grand image that I would spend the weekends on the beach, catching rays through the month of November. Then work and a small detail called LA traffic got in the way. Living in our little bubble of Sherman Oaks, a beach trip these days is now pretty special, and happens just about as much as it did while I was living in the midwest. It’s not that I don’t love the ocean, believe me I’ve decorated my entire Malibu mansion in my head. It’s just an all day event that gets pushed aside for special occasions. Wanting to rock this amazing Boys and Arrows bikini from Swim Outlet was definitely worthy of the trip to the magical moss covered cliffs of Malibu.Continue reading…

Couldn’t drag me away.

Not everyday I get to ride bareback on a beautiful white stallion through country fields of California wearing a silk patchwork maxi, adorned in bohemian jewels and and flowers in my hair. Planning this shoot with photographer Karen Stewart of Unbuttoned Boudoir, we turned this gentle giant of a horse, Harry, into a gypsy dream. Proudly wearing small little braids with strands of ribbons and vintage fabric braided into his mane, he welcomed me (and even flirted with me) for a magical shoot at sunset. Continue reading…

Believe it or not I don’t have a single tattoo. As an artist and musician you would think by know I would have accumulated a couple over the years. While I LOVE tattoos on other people I’m actually completely terrified of having a piece of artwork permanently placed on me. As a non-permanent option it surprisingly took me this long to play around with henna. With lots of henna inspired clothing prints, home decor (even the amazing cruelty-free carved skull above that I’m completely obsessed with) it’s about time I decided to try it out on myself. With this SUPER easy to use DIY henna kit, that can even be refrigerated and used again weeks later, I created some really rad body art that only requires a week’s commitment.Continue reading…

A fire in the sky.

It has been a whirlwind week of self discovery, travels, meeting new friends and bonding old relationships. My unplanned trip to Las Vegas this past week proved to be more than I ever expected. I serendipitously met an amazing fashion photographer with the same passion for bohemian lifestyle. Meeting for the first time a few miles outside of the dry lake beds of Vegas, we instantly bonded and within minutes started setting off dozens of smoke bombs. The setting couldn’t have been more perfect…a beautiful hand painted winged scarf with layers of fringe and feathers on the cracked basin of the dried up lakes of Vegas. Continue reading…
