Don’t you lover her madly…

Don’t you love her ways, tell me what you say. I remember my first introduction to The Doors when I was about 12 by my cousin who basically defined everything that was cool. She was only a year older but I felt like she was light years beyond me in defining what clothing was in, how to sneak alcohol and cigarettes and obviously what were the coolest bands to listen to at the moment. I took most of my coolness cues from her and started to get into all the music she was into which included The Grateful Dead, The Doors and the entire soundtrack to Wayne’s World. We would listen to The Doors self-titled album on summer road trips with her mom and those songs have stuck with me every since. Now to be rocking Jim Morrison’s face on some high-waisted lace-up knickers, why not?!Continue reading…

Lusting over desert wanderings.

I feel like this was my farewell shoot in the US before I embarked on a three month European adventure. It’s been a whirlwind prepping for this European tour with Italian artist Zucchero and now that I’m here an even more taxing (yet amazingly rewarding) amount of effort to learn and internalize close to 60 songs. So much to the point that I’ve been MIA from social media and writing consistent blog posts. Things are finally getting in a groove and I’ve been settling in, something I thought I’d never say during my first two weeks here playing my instrument nearly 14 hours every day. As we’re heading into production rehearsals I’m getting super excited about the shows, something I couldn’t even conceive with the amount of material to sort through (and having it all be in Italian)! As you can imagine a fashion blogger packing for three months is no easy task. This dress from Shopbop in particular made the cut and has been taking the journey with me across Italy and soon all over Europe.Continue reading…

Wild, wild horses we’ll ride them some day

Our final evening at Rancho V. Nothing could be more serene than the desert at dusk. Carefully tiptoeing barefoot through the gravel and fallen cactus needles we made our way to the highest point of the ranch to catch the sun dipping below the Sawtooth Mountains of Pioneertown. The only thing missing from this picturesque scene was a herd of wild horses galloping in the distance. Running across the bottom of my dress is one of the most beautiful graphics printed on a clothing item. Designer Christian Cox brilliantly placed this ethereal black stallion along the hemline of this gorgeous chiffon halter dress. It almost looks as if it emerges from the evening desert shadows. Neutral beaded jewels and Native American inspired designs from Boho Global add the most perfect complement.Continue reading…

The best way to wear a classic rock tee? As a deep v, Brazilian cut one piece of course. Christian Cox, the brilliant designer behind the brand Mouth seriously makes the raddest rock clothing that’s incredibly sexy but remains rocker cool. My first design from Christian that I own is the Grateful Dead Steal Your Face one piece that I still get inquires from even two years after I posted it on Boho Bunnie! Probably one of the most coveted items on my blog. By itself or layered under some high-waisted flares, it’s a no brainier wardrobe staple. I love pairing white on white with an eagle pendant necklace and cuff from Boho Global. Frolicking on the grounds of Pappy and Hariett’s in Joshua Tree, we survived a true desert wind storm on our first shoot of our desert trip.Continue reading…

East Nashville Rock Fashion

During my three week trip to the Midwest this month I made my way down to Nashville for my second visit to music city. Because of the music I play, I feel more and more drawn to this city so every chance I’m in the region I’m making it a point to visit. This trip I was fortunate enough to meet the owners of this rad little rock n roll boutique and listening room, The Bowery Vault, and shoot with a local Nashville photographer whose work I’ve been admiring for a while now. It’s not often that when I get to play dress up that I’m doing it with professional stylists. Most photo shoot prep consists of me turning my freshly organized bedroom into a monsoon aftermath of clothes and accessories. I had an absolute blast gettin a little edgy with the girls from The Bowery Vault in their mix of new and repurposed vintage stage wear. And what makes this place exceptionally cool is that it can be reserved for a  private listening room in for small shows.Continue reading…

Desert Bunnie

Day one of my most recent trip to Joshua Tree started off with some strangely coincidental imagery and locations. Just outside of our breakfast joint, the largest jack rabbit mural literally smacked us in the face. I couldn’t possibly pass up a bunnie in front of a bunny! Making our way back down highway 62, we pulled over to take a look at a very unassuming hotel, the Joshua Tree Inn. Not knowing anything about its history, we learned that this was the actual location that Gram Parsons passed away after a rock star night of partying. Supposedly his spirit still haunts room 8 (which is booked out months in advance). Empty cowboy boots have been spotted walking away from his memorial outside of the room, and many Gram Parsons sightings have been reported. Despite the lure of the Gram’s spirit, the Joshua Tree Inn is a perfect little getaway with an oasis-like pool calling your name on a hot desert day.Continue reading…

I like the way your sparkling earrings lay against your skin so brown.

Desert days calls for bright pastels and western patterns. Thank god it was one of those days in the desert that it was still slightly bearable to be outside in the intense sun. After a night out in Joshua Tree the evening before at none other than the Joshua Tree Saloon, we reconnected with one of the very generous and entertaining locals to shoot on site at his property with his vintage car and trailer collection. We literally felt like we hit the jackpot of photo shoot locations…pink stucco walls, a vintage Corvair and two vintage Shasta trailers! One of which we have plans to rent for our Marfa, Texas road trip. Layers of beaded jewels by Boho Global with a desert-style Canadian tuxedo I feel is my new uniform for these trips out west. Continue reading…

Happy 4th y’all!

The Wild West, cowboy hats & Bruce Springsteen…can you get much more patriotic than that? Currently I’m spending my 4th at a music festival performing and teaching in Ohio with plans for Nashville next week. Most of my traveling involves music and last Fourth of July was no exception with the Grateful Dead Fare Thee Well shows. If I’m not making music or attending a show, my heart truly belongs in the desert. From my dozens of road trips to Vegas I’ve fallen in love with the open road, desert highways and solo drives with my favorite tunes. Nothing like a break from Los Angeles traffic jams that literally take years off of your life, to drive into vast open space. Don’t get me wrong, I do love LA, but my new found love for Joshua Tree will pull me from the city as much as humanly possible. My favorite western road trip threads? Pink Arrows Boutique vintage tees and comfy cut offs for days.

It’s only fitting that I’m as I’m writing this post with serene images of Crestline Lake that I’m headed to Ohio for a few weeks, and northern Ohio in particular where I spent part of my summers on Lake Erie. Visiting this almost Midwest-like California town for the first time was magical. It completely took me back to my dad’s cottage on the river in Ohio and my aunt’s lake house in Michigan. Such an escape from LA traffic, drought dried grass and hazy skies. I could have stayed a whole week in this humble little town with places to sit and daydream for days. Packing the these rad mountain threads from Femmebot Clothing for this trip couldn’t have been a better decision. Easy, breezy western bohemian pieces that travel so well.Continue reading…
