A glimpse into the life of an LA musician
As a musician, I work for myself. I make my own schedule, give myself goals to reach and act as my own boss. Basically the best thing ever! (Besides the fact that sometimes the work is slightly uncertain and I have to pay for my own health insurance–yuck). As far as my main gigs as a performer, I currently play in 3 bands. My main job is performing with Shania Twain, and in my off time I play with my rock band Jayar (we’ve been together for like 5 years!) and a progressive rock band I joined not too long ago–Lobate Scarp.
Last week, we got into the studio with my band, Jayar, to record some drums for our new album. Joe Little, our AMAZING lead guitarist and recording/producing guru works his magic in the studio.
And can’t forget to mention–Jayar fan club president and groupie leader/best band photographer ever, my bf Justin:) Any pictures you may see of my bands—yup, they’re most likely taken by him.
Our new drummer basically killed it on the recordings! With just about a week to learn our tracks, Kenny Wells did his magic for our new tracks.
From the sound booth—we were feelin’ what Kenny was laying down! Ha! I forgot to mention, Joe absolutely takes the best pictures ever. His “stank face” guitar shots are undeniably awesome.
After spending the early afternoon in the studio, I made my way over to Santa Monica to meet up the other band I play with, Lobate Scarp for a commercial audition. I love how in LA there’s so many opportunities…there’s a niche for everything.
After recording and auditions, I made my way back to the valley (Sherman Oaks) and got some quality “Bowie the boxer” time in before it got dark. I’m in a go-to staple outfit that I’m constantly seen wearing…boots, tee and cut off shorts.
Can you tell our backyard needs a little grass? Haha…we’re working on that.
So…..rockstar? Well, I’m almost there:)
