Welcome to the wild west! I wanted to share with you this amazing location that Justin and I found mid way between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Every time we drive to Vegas we talk about stopping in Calico Ghost Town, and finally we did after my most recent run with Shania Twain! (Notice the “Who’s Bed…” sign I found…totally by coincidence:) You probably recognize the pics directly above from fashion features I’ve done (left, right) both shot in Calico. Here’s an inside look at what this town’s all about!
Calico was founded in 1881 because of the silver mines. It had a population of 1,200 with 22 saloons, a China Town and a red light district! What more could you ask for?!? When the price in silver dropped, Calico became a ghost of its former self and was later reconstructed with the help of Walter Knott of Knott’s Berry Farm. It operates as a County Regional Park, and you can even camp here!
My most favorite photographer ever…Justin Zangerle:) Testing out the new lens.
There’s gift shops fully stocked with any western apparel and accessories you could ever want!
Dream catchers and feather hair ties…so western boho.
“Kids Welcome” haha!
We stopped for a drink in the local pub…I surprisingly survived a day of shooting in 105 degree heat!
From the table…to the floor. I love bars like this!
More than just our photo shoot in Ghost Town…a newly engaged couple taking pics. Literally a perfect backdrop around every corner.
Calico is probably a long ways from home from most of you, but if you’re every in the Vegas/Los Angeles area, it’s totally worth the 2 hour drive to visit this historic town.
