Birds of a Feather

Are flocking outside.

Oh, Johnny Was and your incredible tunic tops. Every tunic I own from this company I absolutely cherish. The fit, the ease, and the embroidery details are always on point. The bold colors against the black of this peacock tunic make this a rad transition piece for the end of summer into fall. Tunics are one of my favorite items to wear…with flared denim, as a dress, tucked into little shorts with cowboy boots, or more of a bohemian twist with some wide legged pants.Continue reading…

Fare Thee Well

“I love you more than words can tell.”

grateful-dead-fare-thee-well-soldier-field-2015-fourth-of-july-gd50-music-fashion-blog-34040013

I vividly remember the day when Jerry Garcia died. I was 12 years old and sitting in the front of a large passenger van as a junior camp counselor when the news came on the radio. That was the summer camp where Justin and I first met. I didn’t get into the Dead until high school when I spent summers listening to Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty on repeat on my discman. Over 20 years later, here we are at a Grateful Dead reunion show. If only our 12 year old selves would have known what we were getting into and the unforgettable memories that we were going to make. It’s just a month later that I’ve gotten around to posting the next 100 photos that you’re about to scroll through. It’s hard to describe the experience of a Phish show, let alone our first Grateful Dead shows. There’s so much love and sense of community literally everywhere. Grateful Dead fans are the most loyal fans a band could ever ask for; that sense of loyalty and love is everywhere and creates some of the most magical memories. What a long strange trip it’s been…Continue reading…

City of Light

City of Night.

Photographer

A night out in Hollywood. It’s weird to think of all the times I only dreamt about what living in the city of angels was like. The parties, the glamour, brushing shoulders with celebrities, the exclusive clubs…when I first moved to LA it was all what I envisioned, even more. Walking into a party was like walking into a spread in Vogue. The most gorgeous people were dressed like they came off the runway. It was an experience that I’m so glad I had but sooooo would never do again. Going out in Hollywood meant rounding up all of your favorite girls, meeting for drinks at someone’s restaurant where the comped all the food, going to the club where you sat at a table and Grey Goose flowed like water and not expecting to get home until dawn. The only money that was spent was the $22 exchanged for a cheap Forever 21 dress. A lifestyle that felt so elite and intriguing but so not the real world. Now a night in Hollywood is quite a bit classier wearing some of my favorite brands like Gypsy Junkies & Bed Stu, and reserved for special occasions like eating at my favorite gourmet vegan restaurant or catching a rad musical act. Knowing there’s something for everyone in this city at any stage in your life is why I love this lost city of angels. Continue reading…

And the songbirds are singing, like they know the score.

Part deux of our magical canyon teepee shoot. This dreamcatcher fairytale land was the set for our Wild Feathers shoot…a perfect little nest in the canyon. Colorful gold-dipped feathers on delicate dreamcatchers set the mood for a Boho Global’s Navajo inspired fall collection. Her signature beaded bracelets pair so well with the new large cuff, ring & necklace designs all have native thunderbird and eagle designs. The long fringe leather tassel necklace adds even more textures to this stunning collection.Continue reading…

Summer Concert Beauty Vibes

The summer music scene with Eco Tools.

Summers with me and Justin are normally planned around attending music events. Last summer’s big trip was Jazz Fest in New Orleans, the year before was the Gorge in Washington to camp and see Phish, and this summer’s big concert-cation was the Grateful Dead Fare Thee Well shows in Chicago. We did also get a weekend of Coachella in this year but it was a little different because it was a weekend of performing for me. From being in all types of weather…unshaded 110 degree heat, muggy and rainy, and beautiful 70 degree evenings, I’ve learned to be prepared for anything when it comes to styling. Keeping it quick and simple (especially when you’ve got a whole group of guys waiting on you to get ready to go to a show) is key. Smooth waves and a summer smokey eye is my go-to look that’s so easily done with Eco Tools hair brushes and travel make up brushes.Continue reading…

Hello ruby in the dust…

Right out of a dream, this beautiful white stallion let me ride him through the sand and into the sunset. Not minding at all that we wove ribbons and frayed fabric into his braided mane. Adorned in Billi Blues, Pachamama Bohemian & Spell Designs, this bohemian beauty was the perfect model to accompany me for the evening. From falling in love with Harry the horse during the photo shoot, I have promised myself to someday have a horse of my own. It’s so unbelievably calming to escape the real world and spend an afternoon or an evening riding. The magic of this incredible evening was captured by fashion and boudoir photographer, Karen Stewart.Continue reading…

Let it roll, baby, roll.

Playing country music, I’ve always had a little western in me. Boots, hats and belts can take any outfit and give it an edge…a little rock or country vibe. In LA I literally wear boots all year round. Boots with shorts, dresses, tunics, even swimwear when I get off the beach. Quality handmade leather items will last you forever and pairing two pieces that are western wardrobe staples that both happen to be handmade with love just seems right. Carol McCoy of Real Leather Stuff makes GORGEOUS belts and accessories out of her home in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It’s just fitting to pair them with the handmade and distressed Bed Stu Judgement boot. Two items that will absolutely last you a lifetime.Continue reading…

I wish they all could be California

BohoBunnie

Moving to LA I had this grand image that I would spend the weekends on the beach, catching rays through the month of November. Then work and a small detail called LA traffic got in the way. Living in our little bubble of Sherman Oaks, a beach trip these days is now pretty special, and happens just about as much as it did while I was living in the midwest. It’s not that I don’t love the ocean, believe me I’ve decorated my entire Malibu mansion in my head. It’s just an all day event that gets pushed aside for special occasions. Wanting to rock this amazing Boys and Arrows bikini from Swim Outlet was definitely worthy of the trip to the magical moss covered cliffs of Malibu.Continue reading…

Couldn’t drag me away.

Not everyday I get to ride bareback on a beautiful white stallion through country fields of California wearing a silk patchwork maxi, adorned in bohemian jewels and and flowers in my hair. Planning this shoot with photographer Karen Stewart of Unbuttoned Boudoir, we turned this gentle giant of a horse, Harry, into a gypsy dream. Proudly wearing small little braids with strands of ribbons and vintage fabric braided into his mane, he welcomed me (and even flirted with me) for a magical shoot at sunset. Continue reading…
